ode.

water for the spirit- better than wine i find
though for the body nothing sweeter than a ruby kiss

one that disentangles the limbs, senses, and mind
a sweet heady languor impossible to resist

Quiver

Hushedly your waves curl to meet my shore.
I unfurl.
Never has the earth shuddered like this.

for fall 2010

So sure you were my twin soul
The tide to meet my coast
A calm in my bones I'd never known could be real.
We dreamt up a future on sugar-spun puff clouds
to ease our thorny pasts.
Somehow we soured, it was to sweet to keep in the sun we'd made our home.

These days I still think we could have been cut from the same slab of stone,
Set apart to learn and toughen our hearts, let the wind carve out our skin.
We see the same places upon closing our eyes; unfit for the times we're in.

city in the northeast

Cold nights most the year in a den so snug
made it easy, too easy to sleep away the day.
Outside; a rhythm so fast;
syncopation- too much for my poor heart to beat.

Stone. Brick. Double Paned windows
would never break like me.

I ached to grow strong like the oaks that lined the street
oh city living, you made a wretch of me.

in progress

Familiar road
these nights- full of promises to myself
things I swore I'd never say again
think again
hope again
be again.
Wedged a country between me and old ghosts
who haunt, still want.
They won't believe it's dead.

What the hell did I know about hangovers when I was 18?

(22 Jul 2006)

In this world of work, love and hangovers
Where will your golden hand lay its touch
In this world of work love and hangovers
I will never understand even one day at a time
One day at a time
You should know I still love you
